I had a great evening last night at this event: Women's Voices Rise Up.

I am feeling somewhat distressed by the "Occupation" and all the feelings, emotions, violence, and politics which surround this small chunk of real estate.

How do you feel about it ?

The friend with whom I went to the event with shared opinions on the subject. We also shared opinions on the property damage done on the Breakaway march from the January 18th event in San Francisco with regard to "non-violence".

How do you feel about that as well ?

At the January 18th event I was at the Food Not Bombs tables sorta making sure that everyone serving or being served was having a good time, that the people who showed up got fed some of the forty+ buckets of free vegan stew and rice that we had prepared, free sandwiches, and free snacks (as well as free water). Estimates are that we served over four thousand servings of food to the protest participants.

You can see me waving to you all in this photo here:

I am right next to the yellow bus across the street from the end of the flag pole row. The building nearest and behind the foodshare / serving / scooping site is the SF Main Library. Not to be confused with the gold leaf domed City Hall Building.

are you with sf or eb fnb? i have been trying to get in touch with an old friend, elise, who is eb fnb for a really really long time.
also i have this class called spiritual politics and social transformation, and it was finished last semester but i still have to do an intervention. i was going to do KUSF but i am not so sure it will be something i feel really into. it might be good to go to an sf fnb meeting just to like, check that out. i used to (looong time ago) work with eb fnb and the people are great.

I am in both groups. Indeed Elisa's house is where the Sunday ebfnb.org Cookhouse is located. I am usually there Sundays.

sffoodnotbombs.org meetings are located at the Coalition on Homelessness office space in San Francisco Thursdays between 7:30-9pm.

To facilitate your making successful contact with Elisa, could you email me your contact info to give to her ? Like ... does she know you as nux_vomica ?

With no ill will: I feel compelled to say that not everyone sees the occupied territories as occupied territories. I see them as Israeli land, won in war. I can't think of another established nation which has been forced or pressured to give up its own land, and I can't imagine a circumstance under which Israel should do so herself.

That said, I still wish and hope and pray for peace.

Re: ...
Indeed the land was not valued till development occurred in land given due to severe tragedy to the peoples of Israel. Israel has given up over half of it's land back to Egypt after the attacks which occurred during the Sinai War.

That said there are questions of what right did Britain have to give land currently occupied by Arabs to Israelis ? Questions of that aggressions were not really there till there became class and economic differences between the two populations (perhaps spurred by the economic and political differences of other countries). Questions of understandable defensiveness by peoples subjugated by pogroms and tyranny for generations and generations suddenly being given land occupied by others. Is this not unlike Moses being turned upon by the Jews of Egypt because of Pharaoh's oppression ?

That said what trouble the the "world" would be in if Israeli and Arabs became friends and rallied against their collective oppressors. Who really benefits from the current state of aggressions ?

Re: ...
I object to the occasional anti-Israeli tone of some anti-war demonstrations. I also object to the building of empire hiding behind and using Israel as a shield. That is antisemitism.

Peace

BTW when ebfnb.org and sffoodnotbombs.org were cooking for 1/18/03's event the night before, we where were at the same space as the sign making gathering for the group

I was pleased that I was able to get the two groups together for Shabbat candle lighting that night.
