The Emergency Department (ED) was boring last night. This was both good and bad. Good that most people were spared the emergent necessity of medical care but bad that work was not very distracting from other issues. A blessing in deep disguise?

Yesterday D took me to the "Stitches West 2001" convention in Oakland. It was basically for knitters and weavers from the western United States. On Sunday afternoon I went with J to the "Black Pioneers of Science and Invention" presentation at the Oakland Museum of California. He has been studying basic Black American History and MLK Jr. in his second grade class at school. Hands on activities and demonstrations took place near the Koi Pond. Comprised mostly of different fields of engineering and some health sciences, it was interesting, a bit over J's head but then it is better to look up than to not see the horizon. J was mostly interested in his 'green slime' project and that Granville Woods invented the 'automatic air brake' in 1887 (US Patent 368,265) and the 'electric railway system' in 1891 (US Patent 463,020).
