Mar. 3rd, 2008

My grandmother's funeral was this past Friday so we were in the Bay Area for the funeral and the post funeral Chinese American banquet afterwards. My sister was very sad. I said a bit after the eulogy on behalf of myself and my mother. J and R each spoke a little piece.

In listening to what was said about my grandmother I had the feeling that maybe I should write what my preferences are of what I want said and done at my memorial service. I want a "natural funeral", preferably no casket, just a shroud, no embalming, no burial (fear of narcoleptic live burial and enclosed spaces). Music, yes, Silence, no. Cut flower arrangement, no, living plants, yes. Food, yes. Things about my life I feel are that are important to me include being a nurse, being an activist, having kids, having friends, speaking truth about motivations and ideas.

Afterward we visited and stayed over with solapalabras. Thank you.

On Saturday morning I took R and J to Ironworks in Berkeley which is an indoor mountaineering climbing place which they enjoyed very much as S hung out with her sister in San Francisco.

Saturday afternoon was some walking in Golden Gate Park and seeing the San Francisco Botanical Garden then we all had a very nice, homecooked, spicy dinner with J and M accompanied by caipirinhas.

Sunday we brunched on crepes and walked more in San Francisco seeing trilobites and flowering tea at Paxton Gate and then next door pirates on Valencia St.

Still in Berkeley?
I'm sorry to say that after one night of hiring Oscar, I had to let him go. I don't know if my status as honorary cat-woman dropped to mere human or if his status as master shaman dropped to bad kitty, but somewhere along the way, things went astray. After howling outside my partly open bedroom door, I opened it further to assure him he was welcome. When I got into my bed, he jumped up on my head (I assumed to make sure my headache was completely gone) and began profusely licking my ear. After I sternly let him know his behavior was inappropriate. He apologized and started massaging my shoulders, ah that's more like it - paws only (he's slacking), but hey I didn't complain, until he decided to massage my neck, scalp and hair with his nails - ouch ouch ouch ouch - scratching is not in the contract either. I sternly let him know that this behavior also was not appropriate; he began licking my ear again. Apology not accepted. I kindly escorted him outside my bedroom door - and noticed that oddly enough, his mommy's door was shut tight. Hm....This morning, I noticed all of her bedsheets off and some spray bottles of "pet debris" removal on her bedroom floor. I only have 2 words "bad kitty." Oh, okay, I love him and will therefore give him another chance! But in case your reading, Oscar (God knows you have many hidden talents), no new massage techniques!

Thank God that was annon! Are you still in Berkeley?
Um - that was a silly blog I did - accidentally pasted it trying to repaste a letter I just wrote you, that didn't send correctly!

I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother. Your funeral sounds beautiful, like you :-)...are you going to be in the desert? I'm thinking of going - not sure yet. Tried to call you over the past week and your cell's been disconnected - or am I remembering the wrong number? Call me at 510-689-3962...lots to talk about, I'm sure! I'm in Emeryville - maybe we can hang out if you're around and have time...

Nope. Back in Sacramento. Cellular number is still the same.
